In this chapter, Tamara Roberts provides an insider perspective on the construction and development of Teatro Luna’s Machos script. Having served as the sound designer and composer for Machos, Roberts aims to provide unique insights into the final performance text, as well as the decisions that led up to it. Roberts focuses on three key elements of Machos as a performance: the juxtaposition of multiperspectival group scenes with single-story emphasis, the use of female performers in drag, and the incorporation of camp within a primarily realist aesthetic platform. Roberts ultimately contends that Machos misses an opportunity to more fully interrogate the heteropatriarchal logics on which sexual and gender binaries rest.
