The concept of dual use science is introduced as instances in which unintended, negative applications of scientific research are realized and used; often these are relationships in which academic theoretical developments are transformed into commercial products or military applications. The importance of political economy in shaping anthropological theory is stressed. The organization and core arguments of the book are explained.
