The conclusion revisits the two main arguments of the book, focusing on the agency of traditional religions of Africa in relation to Pentecostal/Charismatic Christianity and their creative engagement with modernity. Special attention is given to the Ga ritual ban on drumming as an instrument of order in Accra’s public space. It also highlights the book’s contributions to the exploration of sonic categories of quiet and not-noise, bottom-up techniques of noise regulation, varieties of forms of secularity vis-à-vis alternative modernities, and the interplay between the concepts of custom, religion, and culture.
