During the same decade that chapter 2 described as a time of development in Thailand (the 1950s), Maurice Rocco’s career declined in the United States, as this chapter explores. Rocco ceased to be a leading nightclub act in the early 1950s, especially during the ascent of rock and roll. By the middle of the decade he was falling into legal trouble, and increasingly looking for work and other opportunities abroad. He toured Australia and New Zealand for nearly a year in 1955. This decade saw Rocco winding down his career in the United States and cultivating a new career as an expatriate. In 1964, he finally moved to the country that became his adopted home—Thailand.
