Reflective of broader trends of disinvestment characteristic of the “end of AIDS” era, the HIV/AIDS component of the Global Fund’s Tenth Round in Peru brought about new challenges that paradoxically undermined the social fabric of gay and transgender communities in Peru. Gay and transgender individuals who established reputations in their communities as collaborators became project specialists when HIV/AIDS projects were introduced in the region.
