After recapping magic’s entanglements with power and the methods used to scrutinize these, the epilogue raises two issues. The first concerns the anthropological trio that situates magic in relation to religion and science by examining all three categories in Indonesian translation. The second considers the value of the category magic in ethnographic description and analysis. While arguing for caution in characterizing unfamiliar practices this way, it is another matter when it comes to analyzing how various parties choose to use that term: to sell commodities; to critique their own society or disciplines; and, in new genres of literature and practice, to activate change. The book concludes by asking how efforts to reclaim magic in order to transform the world might serve as a different inspiration for its translation elsewhere.
