This entry takes the form of minutes from a meeting of the board of directors from the fictional biotech company Genom Corporation, in the year 2049. The essay takes a punk rock sense of exuberant trepidation as a guiding principle in its exploration of the trajectory between sex and genetic engineering. Sex, factored as the function of reproduction, sublimates sex as a culture of pleasure. Genetic engineering as an experimental practice works other kinds of pleasure, those of reason, into the aleatory game of sex as reproduction, making it editable, calculable, and industrial. All of these qualities may in turn flow back into sex as pleasure. The essay proposes not a synthesis of the two as dialectically opposed terms, but the opening up of an experimental field of investigation in both practices that works with the engineering to be found in sex and the pleasure to be found in reproductive technologies and those of genetic manipulation.
