On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall rebellion, it is worth remembering the LGBTQ movement’s militant foundation and revisiting the strategy of direct action as an effective form of queer protest. This essay urges the LGBTQ movement to reconnect with its outsider, anti-establishment roots and realize the true legacy of Stonewall.
