Gaining the right to marry has been an important achievement that has enabled a subset of LGBTQ people (those who belong to the middle class) to become integrated into the mainstream. This chapter argues that marriage equality is not sufficient, as it leaves existing oppressive structures intact. Real social justice requires structural change, not just integration into existing structures.
