The conclusions section reflects on the many substantive and methodological lessons learned through this deeply personal and granular ethnographic investigation. The three general lessons: 1. Poor people’s strategies, we point out, need to be examined both synchronically and diachronically, in present tense and across time. 2. The strategies are about material and symbolic reproduction and, notably, also about physical security. 3. Strategies never work in a vacuum. As bundles of operative ties, they are deployed in a relational context pervaded by direct and mediated forms of domination.
