Part IV returns to the story of two people in Part I who overdosed together: one survives; the other does not. The questions taken up in Part IV are how a person might return to a life once shared: What of that life endures and what fades? And what can be repaired in a space of absence? Part IV explores the dimensions and limits of hope and the idea of living beyond another person.
