This short chapter discusses a traditional approach to erosion control in forests as a blueprint for poiesis, which is elaborated in the following chapters. The poetic stance appears here as deliberately staging dances of agency, and the absence of science and calculation is noted. This sort of erosion control is centered on performance and agency rather than cognition; it is “doing without science.”
