Published:February 2025
This chapter explores how the Pakistani-produced-and-directed television series Churails presents female rebellion and rage among various women separated by class and status. The characters in the show repeatedly defy social convention and centralize their own passions, desires, and need for retribution from the men who have wronged them in a myriad of ways. Using moments from the series as motifs for rebellion, the chapter underscores how the show's female protagonists form their own vigilante coven despite being separated by underlying divisions across social class and experience. The series explores how, despite social divisions, the four protagonists are united in their rage and how this rage is repeatedly framed as a form of witchcraft. This chapters posits how this depiction of feminine rage can be utilized by young feminist activists in the country to uncover new approaches to centralizing rebellion.
