Contemporary Trends in Witch-Hunting in India
-
Published:February 2025
This chapter examines contemporary trends in witch-hunting in India. It shows how witch hunts are complex and multilayered phenomena and need to be comprehended accordingly. Underscoring how witch-hunting is more than just a practice connected with superstition and/or a lack of healthcare and education or, for that matter, even an exclusive gender issue, this chapter highlights the role of regional dynamics and locational contexts. It shows how the phenomenon is geographically and socially more widespread than popularly assumed, and it questions several stereotypes related to witch hunts in India.
