Mobilizing Undocumented Education

The chapter chronicles the shift students made from building on political gains to defensive actions against anti-immigrant policies during the first year of the Trump administration. Students in the group Providing Opportunities, Dreams, and Education in Riverside (PODER) had the political knowledge and the skills to do the increasingly important work of migrant advocacy in this politically hostile context. Because of the immense emotional strain of student activism during this time period, community building was as important as, if not more important than, this urgent educational work.
