The concluding chapter provides an overview of the central role of Christianity and Islam in the making of modern Nigeria from the transformative nineteenth to the beginning of the twenty-first century. It also provides a critical assessment of the implications of these religious encounters for the governance of a fragile Nigerian state. Finally, this chapter situates the militant Islamist group Boko Haram in the wider context of Nigeria’s entrenched ethno-religious politics and the geopolitics of a global radical Islamism.
