Social formation theory purports to explain society and its changes over time. The theory understands power or agency as the means by which societies are organized and changed. In the United States, the state and capital create and install race, gender, sexuality, (dis)ability, class, and nation as singular, multiple, and intersectional discourses and practices to oppress and exploit.
