The Time Has Come to Think about Gayle Rubin
-
Published:June 2024
In “The Time Has Come to Think about Gayle Rubin,” the author reflects on the contributions of Rubin's work to the fields of queer and feminist studies. The author argues that Rubin's analysis of sexuality and gender in the context of kinship systems provides a valuable framework for understanding the intersections of power and oppression. The author critiques the ways in which Rubin's work has been misinterpreted or overlooked by scholars in both fields, and suggests that a renewed focus on Rubin's ideas can help to inform contemporary debates around gender and sexuality. The author also reflects on her own relationship to Rubin's work and the ways in which it has influenced her own scholarship.
