Across the Border: On the Anarchorporeality Project A Discussion between Kathy High and Susan Stryker
-
Published:June 2024
“Across the Border: On the Anarchorporeality Project” proposes an unrealized creative project documenting an orchiectomy. The class and race dimensions of orchiectomy as a transition path are noted, as castration is cheaper and simpler than vaginoplasty. Castration also makes a unique kind of body, distinctively trans. Coauthor Kathy High's contributions note the formal problems of making visual art about the trans body, which when not voyeuristic can become a form of surveillance. The problem of the cis gaze has arrived.
