This chapter explores the emergence of “fetishism” as an expression of the “sacrificial logic” of theology in its biblical context, as reflected in texts from both the Old and New Testaments. This includes exploration from this perspective of Bartolomé de las Casas’s critique of the Spanish conquest of the Americas, the Sermon on the Mount and other biblical texts, and exposition of the bases of a theological ecology.
