Plants and animals are moving north, upslope, and in some cases evolving into new species in response to a warming climate. Those species not able to adapt will go extinct. Heat waves, bad air, and diseases moving north from the tropics will negatively impact human physical and mental health. We must redesign cities to make them more resilient to drought, floods, heat waves, water shortages, and rising seas. The US, Canada, and Europe must also prepare for hundreds of millions of climate refugees who will migrate from the tropics to climate havens in the far north. Rather than spend billions trying to colonize space, we should use our resources to mitigate and adapt to climate change. To preserve biodiversity we need to promote the Rights of Nature.
