Preface

In this short preface specifically written for the English volume, the author reflects on his experience growing up as a queer person in socialist China and significant life events that inspired his writing. He describes his sexuality and Christianity as forming a double closet, as both were forbidden by the socialist state. The experiences of alienation made him question the narrative of socialist liberation and seek alternative answers in classical Chinese literature, Western philosophy, and science fiction.
