The Introduction begins by setting up notional relations among race, disability, time, and intoxication and toxicity as features of transnational empire. “Constitution” is introduced as a structuring affective register that “contains” mindbodies and their imagined material constituents – racializing and disabling material included. In light of neurodivergence’s multitudes, it also invites the reader to read differently, and in ways that are both optional and suitable. A description of the two major archives of the book is integrated with an overview of its chapters. The final section describes the book’s approach to knowledge production, particularly its investment in unlearning that is in part a response to the archives, as well as to the racialization of disability.
