Chapter 3 takes up sexuality (i.e., transcendence beyond sexuality) as an aspect of Black sexuality and the musician Sun Ra as a primary vindicationist voice. Building on the perspective and methodology of Sun Ra, this chapter highlights order as it relates to black holes. Insights with respect to order and black holes alongside Ra's artistic and intellectual contributions inform a new approach to political organization and democracy. While the ancient Egyptian neteru (i.e., pantheon or gods) inspire Ra, the order, movement, and contents of the cosmos also intrigue Ra. The ancient and the cosmic inform visions of physical spaceship flight toward an alternative physics, and a new future—especially as it pertains to Blackness and Black people. Ra points toward a justice that flies beyond terrestrial limits and can be flown into the hearts and minds, bodies and souls of those ready to receive the order of freedom.
