In chapter two, Shankar positions the brown savior within the historical caste-colonial rise of the savarnas. Shankar shows the way that racialized assumptions regarding dominant castes as inherently nonviolent, spiritual, and tecnologically savvy allow for this class of peoples to take on leading roles in the NGO sector.
