This chapter is entitled “ 'After Hitler, Our Turn,' ” a quote from the Communist International in the run-up to Hitler’s Nazis’ seizure of power in Germany in 1933. The chapter is subtitled “The International Purged,” given the expulsion of supporters of Leon Trotsky from the Communist International internationally, which now took place. The development of a disastrous and sectarian new theory of “social fascism,” which saw social democracy as equivalent to fascism, accompanied a new catastrophist political perspective of “class against class,” which declared world revolution the order of the day. These perspectives developed by Stalin led to the failure to build a United Front of social democrats and revolutionaries to stop Hitler’s Nazis, as was called for in vain by Leon Trotsky in exile.
