This reprinted 1960 interview with Jean-Luc Godard, the director of À bout de souffle, details his participation in the Cahiers collective and the spirit of experimentation and improvisation prevalent in French criticism, art, and filmmaking circles during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Godard talks about the process of making the film known in English as Breathless and about his role as both an auteur and a critic.
