This chapter illustrates how a politics around access to essential medicines in India has come to be judicialized, as Indian courts have played a central role in defining the interpretation of India’s post-2005, World Trade Organization (WTO)–compliant intellectual property regime. It elaborates the legal history of an anticancer drug, Gleevec, in India between 2005 and 2013 to consider the place of the law and judicial governance in articulations of health, value, knowledge, and politics.
