The fifth chapter discusses selflessness and the difference between “Me,” “Myself,” and “I.” It looks at how different languages describe the self in various ways and how personal pronouns differ from one language to another. References are made to William James, Stevenson’s Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde, and the movie Being John Malkovich. Finally, it ponders the role Facebook plays in reconfiguring our understanding of the self.
