Chapter 3 explains that since the December 2014 reestablishment of diplomatic relations U.S. Americans have shown a renewed interest in Cuba, and many news stories and books have appeared. However, few of these have given the Cuban point of view about its own history. This chapter addresses the most important moments of that history, as well as events between the two countries that have most expressly influenced the relationship. The chapter begins long before the Spanish Conquest and goes forward to the present, with some indication of where things may go from here.
