Paying for Sexual Services
-
Published:February 2015
This chapter is an extended examination of another kind of boundary, this one between sex and money. The chapter discusses the vexed issue of disability and prostitution. The chapter asks what actually happens when a person with significant disabilities goes to a sex worker. How does an individual with limited ability to communicate who lives in a group home even find out about sex workers or find one? What do sex workers think of disabled clients? How do they interact with them? The chapter details what happens when people with significant disabilities purchase sexual services from sex professionals. It discusses both women and men who buy sex, and women and men who sell it.
