This chapter is a conversation with Elena Lagadinova in 2010. Lagadinova was the young female partisan fighting in Bulgaria during World War II who went on to become a genetic scientist and the president of the Committee of the Bulgarian Women’s Movement for twenty-two years between 1968 and1990.
