An experiment in “self-historicizing,” this partly autobiographical chapter looks back on Writing Culture more than a quarter century later. It asks how these years can be narrated historically. It locates the book with reference to postwar experiences of decolonization and globalization, specifically in a transitional moment between the radical 1960s and the neoliberal 1990s.
