Travel has become trite and repetitive. In the past, travel has connoted exile, spiritual or prophetic searching, exploration, conquest, commerce. Today, travel can be a form of personal enrichment: it is edifying, entertaining, and sometimes leisurely. The introduction suggests that we have become alienated from our own curiosity. It invites the reader to look at the challenges of travel in order to then rediscover its pleasures. Restlessness is a human condition that needs to be tackled meaningfully.
