This chapter examines the evolution of the women’s rights agenda in the un. There is significant attention paid to the un Decade for the Advancement of Women (1975–1985) and the un Beijing World Conference on Women (1995) because of their significance to the movement against “violence against women.” The chapter provides an analysis of the role of geopolitics in the evolution of women’s rights.
