julia thomas swan is an assistant professor of linguistics at San José State University, where she teaches courses on sociolinguistics, multilingualism, and linguistic diversity. Broadly speaking, she is interested in language change, sociophonetic features, and their social meanings. She has conducted several studies in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia that contribute to an understanding of the defining changes in progress affecting English(es) in the region, including their origins and perceived social meanings.
