chris montgomery is a senior lecturer in dialectology at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. His research focuses on nonlinguists’ perceptions of dialects. He has edited volumes including Language and a Sense of Place, with Emma Moore (Cambridge Univ. Press, 2017), and Cityscapes and Perceptual Dialectology, with Jennifer Cramer (De Gruyter Mouton, 2016). He has papers in journals including Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence and the Journal of Sociolinguistics and has written numerous chapters discussing perceptions of dialect variation in Great Britain.
