SONJA L. LANEHART is professor and Brackenridge Endowed Chair in Literature and the Humanities at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her scholarship focuses on language, literacy, and education in African American communities as well as language and identity. She is particularly interested in African American Women’s Language and pushing the boundaries of research in African American Language to be more inclusive and intersectional (e.g., region, socioeconomic status, sexuality, and religion) as seen with the significant research advancements presented in The Oxford Handbook of African American Language (Oxford University Press, 2015).
