Alexander Mazzaferro is assistant professor of English at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a specialist in early American literature, working at the intersection of the history of science and the history of political thought. His current book project explores how an empirical approach to political knowledge allowed colonizers and enslavers in seventeenth-century Anglo-America to circumvent the early modern prohibition on innovation. His publications have appeared in Early American Literature, J19, and English Language Notes.
